Art

The Marcus High School Art program includes everything from Art One, multiple advanced Drawing and Painting classes, multiple Ceramics and Sculpture classes, as well as Photography and multiple AP courses. High School Art programs are important for students in many ways.

  1. Creative Expression & Personal Growth
    • Students explore their identities, emotions, and ideas.
    • Art builds confidence, self-awareness, and problem-solving skills.
  2. Skill Development
    • Students learn both traditional and modern techniques.
    • Digital tools and modern-day applications are also used.
  3. Portfolio Building
    • Advanced students create a portfolio, essential for applying to art colleges or creative careers. They can also receive college credit.
  4. Exhibitions & Competitions
    • Students often display work in the school galleries, local exhibitions, contests and competitive formats like the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, MLK district competition, Congressional Art Show, VASE and more.
  5. Collaboration & Community
    • Working with peers on murals, group projects, or community art builds teamwork and connection.
  6. Scholarships & College Preparation
    • Art programs can help students earn scholarships, college credits. They also help students prepare for college applications, especially for art and design schools.
  7. Career Exploration
    • Students can explore careers in fine arts, illustration, animation, fashion, architecture, game design, and more.
  8. Guest Artists & Field Trips
    • Our program invite professional artists to give talks and/or workshops, and take students on museum/gallery visits for inspiration.
