THE COMMUNITY
Marcus High School is part of the Lewisville Independent School District.
Lewisville ISD is an urban/suburban school district located in Denton
County approximately 35 minutes of downtown Dallas. The Marcus attendance
zone includes students residing in the communities of Highland Village,
Double Oak, Copper Canyon, Lewisville and Flower Mound. Residents of the
area enjoy the many cultural, recreational and educational advantages
of the city while maintaining a small community atmosphere. Marcus High
School is surrounded by more than ten major institutions of higher education
including The University of North Texas, Texas Women's University, Southern
Methodist University, The University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Christian
University, The University of Texas at Dallas and the University of Dallas.
Numerous community, junior and technical colleges are also within commuting
distance.

Marcus is one of five high schools, fourteen middle schools, one career
center, one alternative school and thirty-nine elementary schools. LISD
is the 20th largest school district in Texas and one of the fastest growing
school districts in the nation.
THE
SCHOOL
Marcus High School is a comprehensive senior high school with 2800 students
in grades 9 through 12. Marcus is accredited by Southern Association of
Colleges and Schools and Texas Education Agency. There are over 290 course
selections at Marcus and more than 28 student clubs and organizations.
In addition, a strong athletic program offers participation in 12 competitive
sports: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball,
swimming, tennis, track, volleyball, and wrestling. Students also have
the opportunity to participate in band, cheerleading, choir, drill team,
orchestra, speech, theater, and UIL academic activities.
THE ACADEMIC YEAR
Marcus High School provides an accelerated block schedule. The school
year is divided into two terms (August-December and January-May), with
two quarters in each term. Each school day includes four 90 minute class
periods. One Half credit may be earned per class each quarter. Students
may earn up to four credits per term or 8 credits per school year.
THE CIRRICULUM
Marcus features a multilevel curriculum designed to meet the needs of
each student. Sixteen Pre-AP and Twenty-five Advanced Placement courses
are offered in Art, Computer Science, English, Foreign Language, Mathematics,
Science and Social Studies. Marcus offers an Air Force Junior ROTC program.
Career and technical courses are offers both on the Marcus campus and
at the district career center. A special education program is available
to meet the needs of identified students.
GRADE
POINT AND RANK IN CLASS
Grades are recorded numerically. Rank in class is calculated on the foundation
courses of English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign
Language (starting with the freshman class of 2004-05). Foundation courses
are weighted by a factor of 1.2, 1.1, or 1.0 multiplied by the awarded
grade depending upon the level of the course as described in the school
curriculum guide. All other courses are recorded on the student's transcript,
but not calculated in the grade-point-average.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Effective 1998-99, incoming freshmen are requires to earn 26 credits to
graduate. Students may select either the Recommended or Distinguished
Achievement Programs. Selection of the Minimum Program requires a school
committee decision.

In addition, students who complete the recommended plan may elect to meet
the additional requirements of the Distinguished Achievement Program. All
students must pass the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) to
graduate from a public high school in Texas.
