Useful
Teachers’ Links:
The Lewisville Independent School District Provides a web site,
Research Bookmarks,
for teacher and student use. The user name and password are available from
your librarian.
On that site, you will find link buttons on the left column
of the web site to useful information including bibliographic (citation) sites,
governmental sites, web site evaluation guidelines, education "gateways,"
media literacy sites, webquests, copyright and plagiarism information, clip
art sites, and content specific sites. We encourage you to look there first.
In the center of the site, you will find link buttons to the
subscription databases paid for by LISD or by Region XI. These provide access
to thousands of articles, stories, reports, studies, on the major subjects
your students are researching, as well as copyright free photographs to use
the in presentations through the Multimedia archive.
In the right column, you will find links to the MARCUS
BOOKMARKS, which provide Marcus students and staff with additional subscription
databases purchased by the Marcus library. In all cases, a user name and password
is required to access either the Marcus site or the LISD site. these bookmarks
are available by remote access on the internet with the username and password
available from the librarian.

Using
Library Resources:
Library Collection:
The
library collection includes both print and non-print materials available to
support your curricular and recreational needs, as well as those of your students.
Included in this collection are subscription databases of full-text online
periodical materials, transcripts of the interviews, photos and other media,
and United Streaming and Power Media Plus streaming video collections.
Teachers
may check out books for one month with additional renewals. You may also request
that books dealing with specific subjects be placed on reserve while your
students are doing projects in that area. Please see a librarian to arrange
for this service.
Videotapes
and DVD's are available from the AV Software Room. The computer in the room
is linked to the online catalog. To be sure you have the item, sign up for
it on the date(s) you will need it in the AV Software Sign-Up Book. Items
are checked out on the day of use by signing the BLUE checkout card and placing
the checkout card in the box on the sign-out table near the front desk. Checkout
of software is normally for one to three
days only.

Scheduling
Classes:
The library
can accommodate up to three classes in each block with the exception of Third
Block/Lunch when only two classes can be accommodated. Sign up for the date
and blocks you wish to have your classes come to the library on the Sign-Up
Book near the checkout desk. Be sure to check the dates for which
you are signing up.
The librarians
are available to do orientations to print, subscription databases, and Internet
resources related to the topics on which your students will be working. Please
give librarians at least a 24-hour notice if you want this done.
If you have
a new project, you will need to collaborate with one of the librarians so
that they can be prepared with the materials that your students will need,
and tailor their instructions to enhance your objectives in the research activity.
At the outset, you will know how much information the library has available
for your students' projects/assignments.

Equipment:
- LISD
Administration Regulations DO NOT permit students to move video equipment.
- Overhead
projectors are distributed to the faculty on a permanent use basis at the
beginning of each school year.
- Teachers
schedule the use of AV equipment on a first-come, first-served basis.
- AV equipment
circulates on a DAILY basis, and is due at 4:15 p.m. If you
have a need to use the equipment longer, please discuss with a librarian.
VHS and DVD players and units may be kept for 3 days (2 overnights) when
signed up in advanced and locked for storage.
- The AV
librarian will gladly provide assistance on any unfamiliar equipment. Just
ask!
