Attendance Procedures for
Parents
Please refer to the attendance section
of the student handbook online for
complete rules and guidelines. http://mhs.lisd.net/info/studenthndbk.htm
-
When your child is
absent from school a parent should call the morning
of the absence. (Refer to the alpha chart at the
bottom of this page for your clerk)
A parent must follow up by sending a signed note
no later than the third school
day after the absence to get it excused. Emails
cannot be accepted to excuse an absence, but we
can accept a fax if needed.
-
If the student went
to a medical professional (doctor/dentist, etc.)
while they were out, the doctor’s note should
be provided to the clerk upon their return.
-
A parent may request
homework assignments on the 2nd day of absence by
calling in before 10:00am to the main office 469-713-5196.
-
Any time a student
comes in late or leaves early they MUST sign in/out
with their attendance clerk. Failure to do so will
result in disciplinary action. Students are NOT
ALLOWED to use their cell phones to contact a parent
if they are ill. Students MUST GO THROUGH the NURSE
if they become ill at school. Failure to do so will
result in disciplinary action.
-
When your child has
an appointment, send a parent note that morning.
They can come to attendance to get the sign out
pass in advance. If you did not send a note with
your child, come in to the attendance office to
sign them out. Allow plenty of time before your
appointment to give us proper notice to get a student
out of class. Calls will be accepted in emergencies.
It is extremely difficult to get students once they
have gone to an athletic class that may be at another
off campus location during practice. Planning ahead
is crucial this year to help you make your appointment
on time.

Marcus High School
has implemented an automated phone system called
"School Messenger". This
system is designed to inform parents of student
absences. A call will be placed between 5pm and
8:30pm to the number on file at the school, normally
the home phone number. This call will be made if
your student has missed all or part of a school
day. If you would like to change the "School
Messenger" contact number, please call Vicki
Chance in attendance.
