Marcus High School has implemented an automated
phone system called "School Messenger". This system is designed
to inform parents of student absences. A call will be placed between 5pm
and
8:30pm to the number on file at the school, normally the home phone number.
This call will be made if your student has missed all or part of a school
day. If you would like to change the "School Messenger" contact
number, please call Vicki Chance in attendance.
Attendance Procedures for Parents
Please refer to the attendance pages in your child's Student Handbook for
complete rules and guidelines.
Important tips:
• When your child must be absent from school the parent should call
the appropriate attendance clerk on the morning of the absence. Parent must
follow up by sending a note signed by the parent/guardian with home and
work phone numbers and the student must bring the note to their attendance
clerk on the morning of their return to school. All absences will remain
unexcused if the student fails to bring a note within 3 days.
• A parent may request homework assignments on the third day of a
student's absence.
• Any time a student comes in late or leaves school early they MUST
sign in/out with their attendance clerk. Failure to do so will result in
disciplinary action. Students are NOT ALLOWED to use their cell phones to
contact parents if they are ill. Students must go through the nurse if they
become ill at school. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action
and the absence will remain unexcused.
• If you plan to have your child leave early for an appointment it
will expedite the process if you send a note which your child takes to their
attendance clerk in the morning so they can be given their Off-Campus pass
in advance. If you want to meet your child outside you must call and speak
to their clerk as well as send a written note. (For unexpected appointments)
• If your child has a medical appointment that requires they miss
part of the school day be sure to have documentation from the Doctor's office
which they bring to their attendance clerk The state allows a partial day
absence such as this to be coded "medical" and it will not count
as an absence for that time period. An all day absence with a medical note
will be an excused absence.
• Please contact your child's attendance clerk with any concerns
or questions.
