School Coat of Arms |
|
The MHS Coat of Arms was designed by Rene Ridinger, secretary
of the MHS Student Council from 1985-1988 and member of
the 1988 MHS Charter Class.
The design is divided into four sections each representing
various aspects of the community and the programs offered
at MHS. The upper right section contains a tree representing
the agricultural beginnings of Flower Mound and an airplane
representing the future of the town which really began
its growth with the opening of DFW in 1974. The next section
down contains the mask and lyre representing the fine
arts programs at MHS. The lower left section contains
the huge M representing Marcus. The top left hand section
contains the quill and gavel representing the blending
of the academic programs and the leadership activities
such as Student Council, NHS and other organizations and
classes that teach leadership skills.
This shield became part of a Josten’s design which
incorporates the mascot and a banner with the school’s
name on it. The plaque hangs to the right of the front
office in a wooden display case.

“Marauders”—The
Mascot |
|
In the spring of 1981, the same committee
of students from the three Lewisville middle schools (Delay,
Hedrick & Milliken) that created the ballot for the
school colors also created the ballot for the mascots.
The mascot choices consisted of the Raiders, the Marauders,
and some kind of cat. Obviously, the selection was the
Marauders. The Marauder name is linked to the bravery
of the famous World War II fighting unit known as Merrill’s
Marauders sometimes known as Merrill’s Raiders who
fought under Brigadier General Frank Merrill. They were
jungle fighters in the China-Burma-India theater who had
responded to President Roosevelt’s request for volunteers
for an extremely dangerous mission which included a 100
mile march to surprise the Japanese and to block supply
lines in the Hukawng. |
