Craig
Lutz had an amazing race as the best
in the nation raced for 3.1 miles
through
mud, hay bails, slippery “camel
back” hills to a new meet
record and the 1st place finish
by 0.7 secs
over the Nation’s top ranked
runner (coming into the meet) and
0.4 secs over the 2nd ranked California
runner. There has never been a
national race this fast or this
close. If
you did not see it you should take
a look. If you don’t want
to watch all 15 minutes it is worth
scrolling to
(bar will appear along the bottom
of the video frame) the end the
13:00
min mark of the race and watching
the last 2 or so minutes is worth
the time. The leader is Rosas and
the kid from Calif in third (ends
up 2nd) is the fastest 800m and
1600m runner in the nation last
year.
When I talked to Craig after the
race he said (about the finish), “When
Rosas (#1 runner) made his final
move I was hurting so bad I thought
I was going to black out, but then
I realized everyone else probably
felt the same way and I knew I
just had to go!” Enjoy
the video here.
Craig has one more hurdle to clear
this Saturday in San Diego. He
will run against 40 of the nation’s
best at the Footlocker Individual
National Championship. No one
has ever won both of these events
in
the same year! No other runner
at Nike is trying the double
and there are 2 more runners
at this
race that will challenge him
for the championship.

Marcus soccer today celebrates another incredible accomplishment as
senior Zach B. was announced as an NSCAA HS All-American. Zach, who
scored 20 goals last season and an All-State pick, will be a key component
to the Marauders' charge, along with six other returning starters,
to get back to a 5A State Championship Game this coming season. He
was named as one of only two 5A players in the State of Texas to receive
All-America honors. ESPN/Rise Magazine also named Barnes last season
as a HS All-American, one of only five underclassmen in the nation
to earn that distinction.Barnes follows in the footsteps of US National
U20 Team Player and 2008 Grad Sam Garza, who earned his NSCAA All-American
honors after the Marauders' undefeated 30-0-0 season in 2007 and scoring
a school record 26 goals.
