Marcus Sports Medicine Program /
Student Athletic Trainers

Sports Medicine Program / Athletic Training at Marcus High School is both
an academic and extracurricular activity. Student athletic trainers spend
their first year in the classroom learning the science behind the work they
do. While taking the sports medicine classes, they work in the training
room putting their knowledge to use.
Student athletic trainers work with most of the athletic teams at Marcus,
assisting with first aid, injury treatment-rehabilitation, and moral support
from the sideline. They spend time learning how to tape and wrap injuries
so they can contribute to the team's health. Often student athletic trainers
are interested in medical professions and use their time to learn some valuable
information and gain experience in handling athletic related injuries and
emergencies.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED:
If you are interested in being a Marcus Student Athletic Trainer, you will
need to register for Sports Medicine I 1st period which is offered in the
fall. It is an 18-week course in which you receive elective credit. Here you
will learn the basics of first aid, injury management, anatomy, and student
athletic trainer responsibilities. Taking Sports Medicine I not only allows
you to participate in the Marcus Sports Medicine Program as a student athletic
trainer but is required.
Student Athletic Trainers who remain in the Sports Medicine Program take
Sports Medicine II in the spring, once again receiving elective credit. This
advanced course encompasses learning in depth anatomy, injury evaluation,
and rehabilitation while fulfilling student athletic trainer responsibilities
after school. Your second and subsequent years as a student athletic trainer
you register for Sports Training 4th period.
