From the Principal:
Greetings Marauder Parents and Students. It has been a great start of school (except the continuation of this HEAT!). I am so proud of our students and staff. They participate with incredible acts of kindness to benefit Hurricane Katrina efforts. Marcus HS has raised over $4500 (goal is $5000) by having $ collections during lunches, canned food drives, garage sales, MHS Hat Days, and stuff animal collections. I don't believe that young people today don't care because I see everyday that they do!
There are so many activities going "full speed" such as Cross Country, Tennis, Band, Golf, Marquettes, PSAT teams, Football, Volleyball, Debate, Cheerleaders, FFA, Drama and the list goes on. The efforts of the students and sponsors/coaches in these endeavors is rewarding to witness. How about some recent accomplishments academically? Well, ACT scores and SAT scores were released:

*ACT composite scores.
Marcus = 22.7 (up from 21.8). State avg. = 20.2 National avg. = 20.9

*SAT scores (combination of Verbal + Math).
Marcus = 1108 (up from 1097). State avg. = 995, National avg. = 1028. ^National Merit Commended Scholars - Marcus has 32 commended
students this year and 15 Semi-Finalists.

*TAKS results - Marcus is a Recommended School from TEA.

These are just a few of the incredible accomplishments by our students and staff. The counseling staff did meet recently with Juniors and Seniors to discuss college planning, SAT registration, ACT tests, etc. They should have received a Jr./Sr. Handbook that parents can see, too. Since this will be the last PTSA newsletter before the holidays, I would like to wish all of you a restful and blessed holiday season.
As always, I am thankful for the PTSA's work and all the support for Marcus HS from parents, students, and staff. By the way, don't forget to check out the school's website. Your input is always welcome - please contact me if I can ever help.

As always, if I can be of service please let me know.

Sincerely,
Kevin Rogers

"GO MARAUDERS!!"

From the President:
Congratulations! You have completed the first nine weeks of this school year. No small accomplishment, and there are only three more to go. I realize that our children technically completed the first nine weeks, but as a parent I rejoice in every accomplishment, big or small You see, in many ways we struggle through each milestone with them. Whether it is our duty to get them up in the morning, or ensure they eat, pack a lunch, get some rest, do homework, go in for tutoring, balance social time and study time, learn to communicate with teachers, dropped off and picked up, with supplies, and supporting them in any way, then congratulations.
Thanks to everyone who was able to attend our Open House. Open house is a great opportunity for par¬ents to get familiar with their child's daily routine. Meeting teachers is important, and seeing what they are learning is great, but the real reason to attend is so you can tour the building. Yes, I mean tour the building. Every parent gets lost, turned around, totally confused, and if we ever wondered about our children's ability, we have to take our hats off to them for finding their way around the school. Now that's an accomplishment! We hope to see you at our January Open House.
We invite you to join our PTSA if you haven't already done so. Our PTSA would also love any dona¬tion you would feel comfortable making to our organi¬zation. A few people don't understand what a PTSA does at the high school level, but 1 assure you we stay busy. We were here before school started helping hand out schedules and books, sending out the first newsletter and conducting the welcome back breakfast Since school started our PTSA is getting the Reflection contest set to roll, this newsletter out, the directory ready for (Continued on Page 3 See President's Message)

Please do not let these funds escape. Thanks so much.
